About

Our initial intent is to pursue the structure of a solidarity union (like Apple Together), or a minority union (like Alphabet Workers Union). The type of union matters in that its protections and power will be based on the structure chosen. We expect that some form of dues will be required for us to operate.

What the proposed union can provide:

  • Inclusive membership means privacy in communication through a network of professionals who associate as members
  • Access to funds allows us to defend members and have resources to set up strike funds
  • Channel for public communication to industries and press
  • Pressure on the company to change
  • Collective action, although protections are not the same as when under a CBA in a traditional union (see below)
  • Protection of organizers for a solidarity union, as described in Section 7 of the NLRA

What the proposed union cannot provide:

  • Collective bargaining agreements (CBA) – the lack of a contract can grant us some flexibility in what actions we take, but this is not the same as providing protections available in a traditional union.
